SUMMER IS FINALLY HERE! Its great time to start tai chi classes! Take it easy and remember to keeps pets healthy too with early morning, late evening walks, lots of water or frozen peanut butter or chicken broth treats!
🫀 Nourish the Heart
- The Heart rules over blood circulation and houses the mind (Shen).
- Too much summer heat can lead to restlessness, insomnia, or anxiety.
- Eat heart-nourishing foods like:
Lotus seed, red dates (jujube), goji berries, longan fruit, and chrysanthemum tea.
🥒 Eat Cooling, Light Foods
Balance summer heat with foods that are naturally cooling and easy to digest:
- Best picks: watermelon, cucumber, mung beans, leafy greens, mint, tofu, bitter melon
- Avoid: greasy, fried, or very spicy foods — they create more internal heat
💧 Tip: Try a light mung bean soup or chrysanthemum & goji berry tea!
🧊 Skip the Ice
- Cold drinks may feel refreshing but weaken digestion (Spleen Yang).
- Choose room temperature water or cooling teas instead.
🧘 Calm the Mind
- Practice activities that support Heart-Shen balance: BOOK A YOGA CLASS AT SMALLBATCHYOGA.COM!
Gentle movement (tai chi, qigong), deep breathing, evening walks, or quiet reflection.
😌 Sweat Wisely
- Light exercise and some sweating are good for detoxing.
- But too much sweating can deplete your Qi and fluids.
- Stay hydrated — consider warm water with a pinch of salt or goji berries.
🐌 Avoid Dampness
- Summer humidity can create “Damp-Heat” in the body, leading to fatigue, bloating, or skin rashes.
- Limit overly sweet, cold, or oily foods.
- Use herbs like coix seed (Job’s Tears) or honeysuckle flower tea if needed.
🌞 Follow Nature’s Rhythm
- Wake early, enjoy outdoor activity in the morning.
- Rest midday (a short nap is ideal).
- Wind down in the evening to calm the Heart and prepare for restful sleep.
❤️ Summer is the season of joy — let your heart feel light, your body stay cool, and your spirit stay peaceful.
